A big step up from DQ Stars in a lot of ways. Tact's strength lies, strangely enough, in being a fair bit slower than other gacha games and pacing itself more like a traditional RPG. It makes for a great casual gacha for players looking for overall quality, that signature Dragon Quest charm, and a fun story. Don't expect too many free 10 pulls though, as free gems come at a glacial pace.

So far so good, it's another one of those card collector games but it has a very warm and fuzzy feel to it, what with monsters from the beloved franchise being the cards you collect (well...monsters you collect) story seems decent enough. A few gripes I have is that a) you dont have a main character as such, a bit of personal touch in the form of a customisable character is never unwelcome! And b) obtaining weapons seems to be pretty difficult...early days though I guess

It seems like a fun game, and I love trpgs, but it has really long load times. The mechanics decent. However, some content is LOCKED behind PAID gems and not the free ones you accumulate as you play. I wouldn't mind so much about the paid content but the prices are steep for a mobile game. A 10 draw is about $25 usd. I personally hate gatcha systems most of the time, but locking what feels like significantly better content behind steep paywalls makes me question the p2w qualities in the future.
  • January 30, 2021
If this weren't a Dragon Quest game, I would've given this a 1 Star rating -- it's just another gacha, idle game that has manual input during battles to give people the illusion that they're actually playing a game. I still wish they'd port Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies to mobile phones/devices and add online multiplayer just so they could see if DQ X is worth bringing to the West.
  • January 29, 2021
Enjoying it so far, however, there is a bug with the rewards system for feats. If you click Claim All, it sometimes won't give you the gems for the reward. This should be looked into, but until then, I'd advise anyone who reads this to collect the rewards individually to make sure they register.
  • January 29, 2021
Solid strategy RPG. Good combination of battle length and tactical gameplay - nothing takes too long. Good elemental and debut systems. Fun to acquire and raise up multiple units to use in different situations. The gacha is average. Story is pretty much throw away, so look elsewhere if that's a top priority of yours. I don't really like DQ or monster collectors but am very much enjoying this.
  • January 29, 2021
This game feels like it's come from the past—in a good way. The menus are clunky, and the performance is sluggish, but progression is simple to understand, and the combat is simple & satisfying. And it has plenty of 0-stamuna missions specifically designed to put your low-rarity units to use! Just a nice game.
  • January 29, 2021
I REALLY like this game, so much more than Quest of the Stars, despite this lacking character customization since it's about the monsters. We haven't had a Dragon Quest game that's all about collecting, using, and leveling monsters ever since Monsters Joker 2, in 2011, for the DS! The mechanics are easy to understand, it's easier to grind thanks to skip tickets (mich like Dragalia Lost), the rates are okay, and they even offer free rerolls on launch, which is always a great sign. Happy so far.
  • January 28, 2021
So far I'm in love with this game and see little reason to hate it. On top of your normal draw based rpgs, this game has one mechanic I wish EVERY app game had, and that's the retry mechanic, which allows you to redraw your draw once if you didn't get what you want the first 10x draw you tried, which I find revolutionary. On top of that, the combat is fun, the only hiccup is the blurry graphics but that can be fixed in options for better quality. I look forward to what updates have to bring!
  • January 28, 2021
The gameplay is nice so far. The controls and the style of the game is really good. The only problem i see so far is that they are trying so hard to make it pay to win. Like, they gave us a gift for the games first live lunch and in order for you to receive it you need to have 3000 paid gems thats like 20+ euros. Its a shame to be honest. You cant even consider it a gift.
  • January 28, 2021
Reading all these reviews and seeing where people stand on the game confuse me. The game helps you out on your first pull with a reroll banner that you can use to get multiple S rank units. I got 3 S rank units and got the free one doing the beginner quest. They help you out as much as they can in the game and it's a free game to play I still havent spent money on it and just been grinding like ever gacha game. On chapter 8. And been rocking since. Learn how to play before you say cash grab...
  • February 22, 2021
Well if you liked the old dragon quest monster games your gonna get to control monsters all over again which is pretty cool. Though you will be limited as this is a phone game no breeding monsters and hatching eggs overall pretty good to those who have been in this game series before. This is biased because you get a dragon which is called green dragon free though the story or event going on right now which is pretty cool :). Either way i like it recommend it and hope you find themonsteryoulike!
  • February 22, 2021
3 event at the same time? Low stamina point? VIP system? Either this game is trying to milk money fast before it close down, or they just to gready. Either way. It's not a F2P friendly game. But for heavy grinder you can have fun leveling up most of the monster, since they have battle road with 0 stamina. Overall is an OK game to spend time. Not sure for a long term. I will stay until they dry of event or I had enough of it. Since PvP(Arena) gonna be suck with the P2P players only dominating.
  • February 22, 2021
Drop rates atrocious. Had fun for a two days.... until, well its a pay to win game. Just like all the other junk games. If you don't drop any cash in it you'll hit a wall hard and fast. Sad. I expected more from dragon quest. But its a mobile game and fun is not the objective. Money is. 😥 just think Genshin impact. Its a good comparison on rates and if you don't spend money don't expect to get anyone or anything good.
  • February 22, 2021
Amazing! Love it! There's only 215 sounds like a lot... Quicker than pokemon. Just as fun. 5v5 board game with a twist. Ranked E-S Monsters that u can EASILY level to max. DON'T RANK UP UNTIL STAMINA 0. ONLY BUY 20 SKIP FROM STORE DO NOT BUY XP. GOLD IS IMPORTANT NOT GEMS. that's what makes this game unique. Every game I play I save my CRYSTALS GEMS ETC. In THIS game GOLD is the most important. That's 😎
  • February 21, 2021
Grindfest with NINE separate currencies, not counting items needed to rank up characters. Rewards for completion are a pittance and will quickly fail to keep up with a full roster needed to hit all of the parts. Bosses have abilities players can't have, can cast more potent spells more frequently, and critical items have a low chance of dropping. Top that off with energy that is drained in around ten or fewer story missions if you're not burning it up gathering more materials.
  • February 21, 2021
Don't understand all of the complaints. I really enjoy the game. Very F2P friendly if you dont mind investing a little time. If you don't have that then sure it may seem rough and very tedious. Just use strategy. There is a reroll summon that doesnt require premium gems. Free S unit essentially. But the game has plenty of things to do imo, and LOTS of free currency to get. I've done at least 15 10-summons without spending a dime. Took me awhile to save it but its definitely possible.
  • February 21, 2021
I have to say...I'm not impressed. The game feels made for little children. Initial combat is simple to the point of being dull. Monsters start with a basic attack, and one skill they can cast 2~3 times. There's little depth to be found. However, what really grinds my gears, is that the level cap is rarity based. Is your favorite monster a mere a D or C rank? There's no point in using them. Use A and S rank monsters only or uninstall. All for the sake of milking the player's wallet I assume.
  • February 20, 2021
If you research a little bit and play your cards right you can start a completely free to paly account with a full team of S rank monsters, which I have not heard of in many if ANY other games, most will have 1 guaranteed. The progression slows down in the early game, I would say too early to hook players that arent invested into the Dragon Quest monsters, but it really forces you to move away from the main story and play around with the other parts of the game, like the event stages.
  • February 20, 2021
It's a quick tactical battle game with minimal tactics required including an auto-battle feature. Most battles require stamina, which is aquired via gems (battles, missions) or waiting because, you know, they want you to pay up to not wait. Typical F2P. The amount of stamina you can have does not cause the speed at which it refills to scale. So I am lvl 16, with 89 stamina, and it takes 7hr 25m to refill. Yet 20+ stamina for 1 stage. There's also a lot of little grammatical issues everywhere.
  • February 19, 2021
Well, of course, it's fun. It's fun BUT it's fun because it's Square + mobile, and they have a horrible habit of rewarding new players a year from now. I'm very worried, given the paltry payouts now, that they're just waiting to screw me over. This game, as launched requires grinding, a ... lot. That's not a problem as long as it stands. Don't screw us, Square. --EDIT-- Yeah, I hate to say this, but this game is a massive time drain with not much going for it.
  • February 19, 2021
The idea of playing with monsters of the dq series is enjoyable but the act of gaining those monsters turns into a crawl. The gameplay is only on par with other games that does a better job example Nintendo Fire Emblem Heroes. The gem mechanic is once again a bad example of grimy monetization of people's money by separating them from paid to earned, earning gems is also a slow crawl which is bad as it impulses players to pay for gems. This game needs to be a game, Not a ripoff.
  • February 19, 2021
This is an "endgame" review (story beaten, event done, and all bar CP + 20000 quests completed) Fantastic game up untill this point, great fun playing through the missions and I believe there is far more content to come, regardless of your knowledge of DQ, your likely to have fun here. But where I am the game is simply boring, there is no real way of raising CP effectively, gaining gems is nearly non existent, so its basically just repeating battle road to lvl up at a snails pace.
  • February 18, 2021
As a dq fan this has been really fun, the battleroad is great and let's you level monsters you might not normally think to use while you wait for your stamina to replenish. The stories are simple but feel true to the brand. I'm not gonna dock points for installing a gatcha and getting a gatcha. My only real problems are that my 2nd equipment slot remained locked even after I reached the milestone required to unlock it, and some options require paid rubies instead of regular freely earned ones.
  • February 18, 2021
Great game! The game itself allows use of lower ranked units. Even an F ranked unit can be upgraded and quite a nice addition. Lower units also have lower upgrade costs. Sure, it's nice to get an S rank, but you'll be stuck at 2-3 upgrades for an S, while that B or C unit can get 5 or 6. This all provides a nice balance until you get the resources to upgrade A and S units. Players that play gatcha games will rate this poorly, immediately assuming anything less than S is "trash". Fools.
  • February 18, 2021
Game tells you to get behind the enemy, but there is no damage bonus for inflicting side or back attacks (a tactic mainstay elsewhere) so what is the point? It leads to the characters acting stupidly and sitting in front of the enemy blocking other characters attacking when the ai is turned on. Having said that I am enjoying the play, I'd recommend spending 99p to get 120 gems and buy the starter pack, the skip tickets and cash come in very handy.
  • February 18, 2021
The game content itself is not bad for a developing gacha, but the cost is roughly 24 USD for a 10 pull with no pity system and not even a guaranteed A rank until the 5th 10 pull is ridiculous. This game will not survive in its current state, dont waste your money. Also the game is poorly optimized, even on my s10+ the loading screens are long, and there are loading screens for EVERYTHING.
  • February 17, 2021
Good game but screen does not fit my phone. Its early yet but I'm sure the pay to progress wall will hit sooner or later. So far it is a pretty fun game with allot of classic rpg characters to collect. My only problem is that with the galaxy a21 a chunk of the bottom of my screen is just black. Not a big deal but its a little distracting.
  • February 17, 2021
Draw rates on scouting are very misleading and really bad after your initial top level cards are drawn. They say 3% chance but after 110 scouts, ZERO SP cards. I'll give a more detailed review after another month of playing but so far things are a bit rough with this game. For anyone having an issue with game closing immediately after trying to open, turn debug mode off on your phone.
  • February 17, 2021
The game is enjoyable, but impossible for free to play folks to keep up with. The free premium currency is given out in miniscule amounts, featured characters are not added into the general pool, after their banners finish, and it costs the equivalent of $240 to activate a pity pull for the top tier characters, a decent number of which need multiple copies to really shine. Every event, you will have to ask yourself, "Can I afford to drop $240 - $480?" I would imagine the answer is no.
  • February 16, 2021
Fun game with cool and nostalgic dq graphics and music. Combat targeting and movement is a little janky. The auto battle ai is not great. Having to go to the mailbox after earning any reward is time consuming (when you accept an achievement reward, or get rewards from finishing an adventure, it should just grant the reward immediately, not make you also go to the mailbox). The accept all buttons on the mailbox and achievement screens don't actually accept all.
  • February 16, 2021
I think for what this game is supposed to represent, it does a good job of it. If you want a good turn based fire eblem like game but with monsters and are a fan of dragon quest, I recommend this game. It does a nice job of pacing itself so u don't end up playing for a long time, osmething to play if u are waiting or want a quick game of something. For what it is, it dies a good job.
  • February 15, 2021
Sadly, this is a very low effort Tact game. The battle system is extremely basic. You move on a grid and attack enemies. There are things like weaknesses and stuff of that nature but it can completely be ignored to get through most stages. I couldn't really recommend this to anyone. I wish this wouldn't have had Dragon Quest attached to it... Edit: changing this to 4 stars. After spending some more time, I find myself back in love with the DQ formula, much like FEH, this will have my attention.
  • February 15, 2021
I finished and enjoyed most of the Dragon Warrior/Quest saga and it definitely became a nostalgic part of my childhood. The game's ost provides such a nostalgic ambiance to every familiar player, and the art style and monsters are true to its roots. The tactics mechanic is very entertaining and sure works well for the DQ game. The story is short and simple, but provides a new and unique story with that touch of old school blended with modernity. A definite try in my book. Quite f2p. 4/5
  • February 14, 2021
Pretty good. Incorporates the best aspects of many other mobile gacha games (Fire Emblem Heroes, Dokkan, etc) as well as the music and art design Dragon Quest is always praised for. Combat is kinda clunky, making me mash the attack button every turn because it doesn't understand what I'm doing, but pretty small complaints for a game this fresh off launch. Hoping for a version of this with actual DQ characters, but the monsters from every game are pretty iconic. Kinda feels like a Pokémon game.
  • February 14, 2021
For only being out recently the game is pretty good. I like that they made a way to make weak monsters worth using in a game mode and not giving it a cost. A fun way to use units that would otherwise never see use. I see in game currency becoming slightly hard to come by later on so hopefully that will increase. Energy regen is pretty decent and I haven't seen any bugs in a week of playing. Overall pretty dang solid for its short time on a global release and hopefully it will only get better.
  • February 13, 2021
It's what is expected to be, good and bad. The battle system is particularly good, the upgrade system is not bad but it's almost impossible to upgrade S tiers in the beginning (if you have a S tier...). The only thing I can say that it's bad are the scout rates and the difficulty of limited time events, the game don't have too much time out to have a fully upgraded team to deal with the event in this moment.
  • February 13, 2021
I think this game is fantastic and I havnt had any problems with it so far. It already has a good chunk of content and the gecha is no where near as harsh as other games. Defo the best mobile dragon quest game for me. P.S make sure to make the most of the re roll pull at the beginning of the game!!! Get as many S monsters as you can!
  • February 13, 2021
A gacha game with DQ monsters, and you can give them nicknames. Probably won't take off until the PvP opens up, but it's a lot of fun setting up teams for the different content and in prep for the arena. Generous to new players with unlimited retries on the first big roll (I got 3 S-ranks and some A's after around 20 tries). Some content requires specific characters, but they are not hard to find, and it's fun overcoming the challenges of Battle Road.
  • February 13, 2021
Its really fun to collect the monsters I recognize and the few I don't. I'd encourage you to try this if you're a fan of dragon quest or any tactical RPGs. I personally enjoy this one a lot more than Fire Emblem Heroes. As for the paid currency you get a fair amount each level though levels do tend to take longer than I first expected.
  • February 09, 2021
Pretty fun and not bad although you do have to grind quite a bit nice graphics and normal dragon quest story. The energy takes awhile to recharge though and the while the enemies have similar health to you they have total bullsh*t magic. An enemy can have a similar spell to you but as to where you run out in one or two casts an enemy far under your challenge rating can cost it a seemingly infinite amount of times. The ???? Seem to just be an excuse to give the enemy 9999 spell mana.
  • February 09, 2021
I had high hopes for this. I was hoping for a decent tactical game, but it's Every Other Gacha Game with a Dragon Quest skin. It's all there. Many, many, many characters (a plus for we DQ fanatics). Too many ways to improve your team. Too much clutter on the UI. Too many "special events". If you're into generic Gacha mobile games and enjoy DQ, this is for you. If you wanted a fresher experience with a DQ skin, well... Give it a try because it's free, but cross your fingers for next time.
  • February 09, 2021
Super fun and not p2p. Great grinding game, and really easy to immerse into the world. This is my first DQ game and it makes me want to play the others. The characters have their own fun style and abilities, theres many versatile ways to win, and many different types of quests to play, Battle road helps level and upgrade lower class monsters to become stronger, and much more. And theres still so much time for more to be added in the future including Arena, More characters, New Abilities etc.
  • February 08, 2021
This game seems review bombed.. I personally think it's really forgiving and the rates are pretty great if you're lucky enough. I've gotten 3 S ranks without buying anything after a week. The specified race training stages have no stamina cost which is a pretty big deal if you need to grind; The UI, sound design(Hard to mess up DQ sfx), and monster renders are really good. I'm not sure why this game has a 3.9 with the minor complaints other have given.
  • February 08, 2021
I had a lot of fun playing this game so far. I am a fan of both the Dragon Quest series and Tactical RPGs, so this game was a welcome addition for me. Anybody who is fine with a turn based strategy game with fun elements in it would likely enjoy the game. This game is not recommended if you do not like to take some time to wait for your next action, and instead like fast-paced gameplay.
  • February 08, 2021
So far I really enjoy this game, it took me a little while to get a general understanding of how everything works as far as leveling up and what not, and I still don't understand how to equip my monsters but I still give this game 5 ⭐ ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I'm a dragon quest fan from the 90s so I am into the game from the start.. I do hope the developers can give more details on how to unlock all the stats and just a way to understand everything inside the game... GIVE THIS GAME A TRY YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED
  • February 08, 2021
The game is overall pretty fun so far. The combat and tactics are simple and easy to get into. Especially me who hasn't played a lot of rpgs in my life. I like all the events that are going on and all the characters you can unlock. I like how the game isn't always out to make you spend money unlike some other mobile games. I'm very eager to see what will come in the future!
  • February 08, 2021
It is a very good game, but my only complaint is that for some recruits, you have to buy gems in order to use them. I feel that buying gems is unnecessary because earning enough gems to get a recruitment is an accomplishment in itself, but when you have to buy something instead of just increasing how many gems you would need to use, is just basically saying that this app is a pay-to-win game.
  • February 08, 2021
I'm enjoying it. Only issue I'm running into, is that I wish is if I want to play on BlueStacks to save my phone battery (or play while talking on the phone). You literally can't have your active game data on more than one device or an error comes up on launch. Seems silly to me since my data is linked to an account. Why shouldnt I be able to play on both without having to reinstalling the game.
  • February 08, 2021
This got really boring, really fast. The character models are subpar, the reward system is lacking and there is virtually only a tiny fragment of things to do. The story is not great and I honestly forget to even log in daily sometimes because that's how forgettable it is. It also wants you to invest heavily in weaker units but that takes a lot of time and effort that I just don't have. I honestly went in and hoped this was a decent tactics game, and was very disappointed. Its still lacking.
